 2023 Preview

Orange Beach completed the 2022 season with a 8-3 record. With their 5-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region one, the Makos earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Orange Beach's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to B.T. Washington by a score of 46-43.

The 404 points scored by the Makos last year were a team record in a single season. The defense allowed a team record 257 points last season. The Makos have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2023.

Orange Beach is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only three seasons. They have managed a record of 20-11 over the past three years.

The Makos are led by head coach Jamey DuBose who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 8-3 record in his first season at Orange Beach. Under his direction the Makos have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach DuBose. His 165 wins rank 27th among active coaches in the AHSAA. The win total includes 145 wins in Alabama and 20 victories from outside the state. Over the course of his career, Coach DuBose's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won nine region championships. He has a 31-11 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches. Coach DuBose won three state championships prior to arriving at Orange Beach, the last coming in 2018 at Central Phenix City.

Coach DuBose needs five wins this season to reach the 150 win milestone.

A very difficult schedule may slow down the Makos early in the season but they will be battle tested and ready for another playoff run under Coach DuBose.

The Makos should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

The Makos open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Milton FL on Friday, August 25 at Orange beach Sportsplex.

This will be the second meeting between Orange Beach and Milton FL on the football field. The Makos have a 0-1-0 record against Milton FL. They last met in with

Orange Beach lost 4A All-State  athlete Chris Pearson to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.
